| Can you dive to the bottom of the
pool and pick up 50 pennies? Well, guess what! In just a few days, you will be
SCUBA DIVING to the deepest sections of our pool, collecting pennies and more without
having to surface for air. Led by Mike Guckin, dive instructor and owner of Under
Water World in Horsham, this SPECIAL program has always been one of our most popular
electives. Mike takes the campers through the "basics" of mask and
snorkel, gradually progressing to full SCUBA gear. This SPECIAL offers an
introduction to the sport. |

Although our camp program does include an
instructional softball program, complemented by recreational league play, we do not play
baseball. To satisfy the active little leaguer, we have designed a baseball program. Coached by
Sam Smith and Skip Mason, PE teachers and Middle
School baseball coaches, this instruction will emphasize basic hitting
(practice in our batting cages), fielding and
throwing skills. |

| Although hip hop is a fairly new
form of dance compared to other styles, it is quickly becoming just as
common as ballet or jazz. With hip hop music being one of the most
common styles of music in the mainstream today, this style of dance is
becoming all the rage. We are very lucky to have Meredith Matarese,
professional dance instructor and owner of Spotlight Dance Centre
(215-340-2221), lead
the Elbow Lane Hip Hop Special. In this week long program, Meredith
and her assistant take our campers from the basic moves to a grand
performance in front of the entire camp during the "House Party"
on Friday afternoon! |

A special is a unique activity, not included in our regular camp
program, that is offered to campers as an option. On most occasions,
campers 2nd grade and up are eligible for these programs. However, some
programs (such as Skin and Scuba) may have limiting factors based on
age/ability.
What are the activities and how often are they offered?
The Specials are listed above with a brief description. Generally
speaking, a different Special is offered each week, beginning the second
week of camp. The exception is during Olympic Week, when there are no
"specials." Click on "Camp Calendar " in the left index
to view our summer schedule of activities.
Who instructs these programs?
The activities are led by professionals. Most are outside experts
who make their living teaching the activity to children and adults. All
are highly qualified and appropriately certified for their area of
expertise. Elbow Lane staff will assist in order to ensure a high
staff-to-camper ratio and quality program.
How do I sign up for a Special?
To be eligible for enrollment in a Special program, campers must be
enrolled in camp for a minimum of 4 weeks (5 days per week). Sign-ups
are taken the week prior to their offering. Campers sign up with their
Head Counselor on the Friday prior to the activity. If a camper is not
enrolled that week, they may sign up Monday morning of the activity
week.
What is the time frame for the electives, and will I miss any activities
if I sign up?
In most cases, Specials are offered in the morning (10:00 to 11:00
for Intermediate Camp, and 11:00 to 12:00 for Seniors and CITs). If
enrolled in a Special, you will miss the regular activities scheduled
during this time. Occasionally a Special may be scheduled during the
afternoon, depending on the activity and availability of the presenter
and facility.
And, BEST OF ALL, these programs are offered at
NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!
